FAQs about Aggreko’s low-voltage and high-voltage transformer rentals
Industrial electrical transformers come in a few different varieties. When choosing a transformer, you may need to decide between using dry type vs oil-filled transformers (otherwise known as “wet” transformers). Oil-filled transformers are more commonly used in industrial applications.
In the process of converting energy, transformers can generate a significant amount of heat. “Dry” transformers use air to cool themselves and are most often used in lower-voltage applications. Oil-filled transformers – or “wet-type transformers” – transfer heat into a layer of insulating oil. This makes oil-filled transformers generally more efficient than dry-type transformers, and more suitable for large-scale industrial applications.
An industrial control transformer is used to step voltage up or down to match the requirements of a system. Ranging from 2.5 to 6.3 MVA, our transformers can be used to step voltage both up and down, making them suitable for a wide range of voltage requirements.
A single-phase transformer only contains one pair of transformer coils, and is generally used in smaller, domestic applications.
A three-phase transformer, on the other hand, contains three pairs of transformer coils. These more robust transformers are generally used for larger-scale applications, particularly industrial settings. All of our transformers are three-phase transformers.
Our transformers are UL-approved – meaning that they have been tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories. This means that you can easily implement our solutions without requiring approval from a governing body to comply with National Electrical Code® (NEC®) Section 90.7 “Examination of Equipment for Safety.”
This makes implementing our temporary transformers faster, more cost-effective, and more efficient.
